Charlene Hart
Born and raised in Canada, Charlene Hart twinkled her toes into dance at the age of 3. She has been dancing for 28 strong years, and her career is only growing more substantial with every year. She has accomplished many dreams in such a short period of time, and continues to thrive for what she wants.
Most recognizable, Charlene achieved the title of final top 5 girls in the hit TV show, "So You Think You Can Dance Canada" Season 3. Charlene competed against thousands to make the Top 22. Attending the SYTYCDC Season 4 audition tour, Charlene surprised and pumped up the hopeful contestants of BC, spending the day filming with ETALK. Since the completion and filming of SYTYCDC, Charlene has returned to BC where she is working hard and traveling the lower mainland teaching workshops, master classes, setting choreography and highlighting in numerous shows. Charlene has appeared in such shows as: Carnival LA 2010, The Annual Sports BC Award Ceremonies 2011, Women's Resource Society Show against "Abuse Towards Women," Vancouver's Choreography and Talent Showcase '11 and Cliff House Entertainment production of "Fest of Fools." Charlene has choreographed, in addition to highlighting with her own solo work, for Song, Strings and Steps productions of "Talent," "A Christmas Tale" and "Hits from Broadway." Film credits include the movie, from the famous Nickelodeon Production, "Ragz." Most recently Charlene choreographed for Team Canada West, where they placed Top 5th Finalist Jr. Small Group Modern Formations Division @ 'World's' in Poland with their routine. She was also asked to work more closely with the dancers for Worlds 2014, and was titled the head instructor in charge of cleaning all of Team Canada West Routines in order to get them ready for another successful year at Worlds. Charlene also had the privilege of being the head choreographer for 'Fraser Valley Stage's Production of Oklahoma', where they received standing ovations and sold out performances! In 2011, she was chosen and awarded by the Abbotsford Arts Council the 'Arty Award for Outstanding Artist in the Performing Arts, Dance.’ Charlene has trained in numerous dance genres including: Ballet, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Lyrical, Contemporary, Modern, Hip-Hop, Tap, Pointe, Musical Interpretation, Contact Improvisation, Partnering, African, Salsa, Ballroom, Latin and many others. Additionally, she has completed all Royal Academy of Dance graded and vocational exams. Charlene has also earned her certification in Acrobatic Arts and continues to train and extend her certification levels in this field of dance. She has had many opportunities to perform for her community not only as a dancer, but as a choreographer and dance instructor. Whilst still a teenager she landed gigs such as: Pacific National Exhibition for 2 years, dancer for artist Teresa Louis, and 2010 Olympic Emblem Revealing Ceremonies. Charlene was awarded with the title of B.C.'s Provincial Representative for 2 Consecutive years, both resulting in Runner Up in B.C.'s Provincials. Charlene's dedication and love for dance rewarded her with her first professional job just shy two weeks out of High School. Charlene ventured off to work with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines at the young age of 18, and spent the next two years traveling the World. She has also worked with Holland America Cruise Lines, completing two years of contract, and was honoured with the role of Dance Captain. After dabbling in the creative side of dance, Charlene became a production assistant and choreographer for Stiletto Entertainment. She was then inspired to move to New York City to train with the best of the best, and expand her education in dance. NYC opened up a whole new life in the dance world, and this is where Charlene broke into the world of Ballroom, and Latin dance. Whilst digging into this new training, Charlene also continued to study hard in her true passion of Lyrical and Contemporary dance, and of course every other style that was available. Charlene has had some of the World’s top training from teachers that are constantly sought after, and the world's top Choreographers such as: Stacey Tookey, Mia Michaels, Maria Torres, Blake McGrath, Luther Brown, Jean-Marc Genereux, Sergio Trujillo, Danny Arbour, Gustavo Vargas, ShowTyme, Melissa Williams, Bill T. Jones, Christiana Woodard, and the staff of Alvin Ailey to name a few. When Charlene is not performing or studying her art, you can find her sharing her knowledge and love for dance. Charlene's passion for teaching reflects the same passion and love she feels towards dancing herself. She is adamant to pass along the abundance of knowledge, experience, and insight that she has in dance as well as help nurture, develop, and inspire young dancers to chase after their dreams. |
